Crabs are the lifeblood of the Bay's ecosystem, balancing the delicate food web by preying on bivalves and sustaining filter feeders, fish, and birds. As overfishing and rapid ecosystem changes threaten this natural harmony, we aim to find sustainable solutions that could potentially offset some of these threats.
Our product offers a delicious and sustainable alternative that supports the health of the Bay. By reducing pressure on declining Blue Crab populations, we help protect the delicate ecosystem balance while providing a tasty option that’s good for both you and for the environment.
Health Consideration
There are other environmental hazards present that work their way up the food chain through a process called bioaccumulation, potentially leading to compounding health issues in consumers over long periods of exposure. Microplastics and heavy metals are present in many aquatic ecosystems, the long term health ramifications of which are still being studied. Also present in many environments are “forever chemicals” such as PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) and PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl substances) that do not degrade via natural processes.
